We are used to drink masala chaas on every summer days. Chaas is all time favorite to beat the summer heat. This wonderful drink gives the cooling effect and is so easy to make. It is the drink which is suitable for all age groups.
Next day when mom was making chaas for the family, I was so curious to look at the procedure on how she makes. I was in the kitchen with my eyes wide open to observe the secret recipe of hers. I did not wanted to tell her the mistake though she knew it why I was so interested in knowing the procedure (She told me when I grew up that the quantity of milk was not the same and hence she has guessed it already that I have done something with it.)
First time I made masala chaas was when there was no one at home and I was craving to have a glass of cold masala chaas. I was 7 years old then. What is the first dish you have made? How old were you when you tried your first dish? Initially I was two minded whether to wait for someone to come and make it for me or just make it myself. Finally due to hot afternoon I decided to make it myself. I remember it clearly as this was the first time I entered the kitchen to make something. I went on to search for milk and mixed salt and grounded black pepper. I was feeling so proud of myself that I have done something. I was thinking about all the praises my family would come and say. With all the dreams of praises I took a sip. I pretended to myself that it is good and taste similar to what mom’s make. Though I knew I have done some horrible mistake but was not sure of what. In order that my family does not laugh on how I made chaas, I actually washed the utensils and cleaned everything so that they don’t come to know what I did.
This is how she made chaas on that day.
Ingredients
· 1 cups dahi (My eyes were wide opened when she used dahi instead of milk.)
· ½ tsp cumin powder
· Salt to taste
· 2 cups water
· Black Pepper Powder
· Handful of coriander leaves
· Ice (Optional)
Method
· Blend dahi, water, salt and ice together
· Garnish with cumin powder, coriander leaves and black pepper powder
My brother purposefully says “Deepa dahi ke chaas toh pila, dahi ke”. He emphasizes the word DAHI so much that every time that incident discussion starts and everyone burst out laughing making me embarrassed. I certainly hope my friends here won’t do the same.
